Auctions to Benefit the Austin Hatcher Foundation Set for Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course

  • Auctions to be held amid Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio Weekend

  • Foundation bringing Diversionary Therapy program to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (May 1, 2018) – This week’s theme is maximum visibility at Mid-Ohio for the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer, with a variety of activities integral to the Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.

The storied and scenic Mid-Ohio circuit is the fourth stop on the 2018 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship schedule, offering a unique setting for several fundraising auctions that will benefit the foundation, an official “Proud Charity of IMSA (International Motor Sports Association).

The auction schedule:

  • Friday: Silent Auction, Cadillac Corral

  • Saturday,4:00p.m.: Auction of live Roger Warrick painting, Porscheplatz/Porsche Club of America area

  • Sunday, 10:45-11:15 a.m.: Auction, Meyer Shank Racing team transporter

Warrick is a frequent “feature act” during at-track auctions befitting the Austin Hatcher Foundation, producing “live” artwork for fans’ bids. His works have been commissioned by Autoweek, Watkins Glen International, Ford Racing, Bristol Motor Speedway, Team Sahlen's, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Paul Oxman Publishing, Drive! Magazine, Newman-Haas Racing, and many private collectors. Warrick is also well-known for his artwork used for the cover of Sebring International Raceway’s program.

In addition to the auctions, the Austin Hatcher Foundation will bring its innovative Diversionary Therapy program to Nationwide Children’s Hospital on Thursday. Foundation staff members will be accompanied by IMSA drivers Lawson Aschenbach and Justin Marks of Meyer Shank Racing.

The foundation’s Diversionary Therapy visits to children’s medical facilities – often occurring in markets where IMSA races are held – entail specialized activities for children and families, supplying a much-needed respite from the everyday realities of a fight against pediatric cancer. One of those activities is the building and racing of miniature Pinewood Derby cars, with IMSA drivers interacting with young patients.

“This is a full week for us, a week that will be one of the highlights of 2018,” said Austin Hatcher Foundation President Amy Jo Osborn. “Both the race circuit and children’s hospital we are visiting are first-rate, as are the many people who are making our involvement possible in and around the Mid-Ohio event weekend.”
